Testimonials

“We have worked with Selim on two occasions on residential design, construction and furnishing projects, one in London and one in New York. In both cases we can highly recommend Selim for his detailed understanding of each project’s scope and his meticulous attention to the planning process, which include exceptionally specific drawings and construction documents as well as fine detail on all pricing matters. Selim was closely involved in the supervision of the construction project, and as a result we kept closely to the timeline and the budgeted projections. In addition, Selim’s recommendations on furnishings, colors and materials, from professional suppliers of good repute and high quality have always been very much in keeping with each project’s style. As a result we have not wished to make any changes or modifications since the projects have been completed and can make full recommendations for his services.”

“After much thought and careful consideration my husband and I selected Selim Koder to be the architect and designer of our new apartment at Two Beekman in Manhattan. Rosario Candela, the famed architect of 740 Park Avenue also designed our building in 1931. To do justice to the apartment’s architecture we had to find a professional who had the right experience, education and taste level to the take his job. We saw over 25 designers and architects and immediately understood that Selim Koder had the right “eye” to interpret our vision and make this jewel of an apartment into a beautiful and comfortable home. The apartment had intrinsic problems: a paucity of closets, a difficult kitchen with quirky meters, pipes and ceiling levels, and uneven living room ceiling with mismatched beams, and more. Selim knew how to overcome every problem giving us clever and wonderful solutions. He worked magic in each bathroom making use of every inch. He helped with the study giving us much-needed built-in computer workstation plus a linen and broom closet. He showed us that we could hide these elements just as well as show them off. Everything he designed is beautiful, practical, and makes perfect use of space. From the ceiling moldings to the floor baseboards to the ingenious way he designed our closets and cabinets, he overcome each obstacle with ease. On a personal level, we enjoy working with Selim. He indeed is a gentle man. He is easy to talk with and listens to what you have to say and then responds. He always goes the extra mile efficiently, creatively, in fact perfectly. My husband and I are so proud of each other. Not only did we find the perfect apartment to grow old in but we also had the sense to select Selim Koder to create our new home. He was the right man for this seemingly daunting job that he said was easy! Selim did an extraordinary job.”

“My wife and I worked with Selim Koder on two projects, first drawing plans for an aborted apartment purchase and subsequently the restoration of an early 1960s living room set. In both cases, Selim performed to the very highest professional standards, meeting all deadlines and providing outstanding advice and insight. The apartment was a complex project involving joining two apartments, one above the other, and providing internal access to a private garden on the roof. The requirements for the kitchen and for handicapped access also created challenges for Selim. In every case, the proposed solutions were effective, innovative, and well integrated into the overall design. The flow within the spaces was gracious and functional. Space was used very efficiently, creating the airiness that we hoped for. Our only regret is that the financial crisis prevented us from moving forward on the project. The restoration of the living room suite was also quite challenging. The pieces had numerous compound curves and we wanted the fabrics to reflect the era. Selim Koder effortlessly found local experts in modernist restoration, with whom he worked closely to ensure that the finished product was to top standards. This project came in ahead of schedule, and we were thrilled with the result. We recently contemplated auctioning the set through the premier modernist auction house in America. They could not believe that the set was not 100% original. We strongly recommend Selim Koder with no reservation, and believe his professionalism and creativity will positively transform any project on which he is engaged.”

“It is my pleasure to write a supporting letter for Selim Koder, who was the architect who handled the gut renovation of our penthouse in Greenwich Village. Selim was smart and creative, conscientious and timely, and pleasant to work with. He responded to our whims and wishes, and we are well satisfied with the outcome. I recommend him without reservation.”
